Flowers

A pot by #3 tee - just another added part to our new landscaping/course beautification project.

Venting greens

Here is a picture of David punching greens with a slicing tine to open up some vent holes in greens. This is a very important practice on our greens that allows for increased oxygen exchange to the roots. When we've been getting the rain and humid weather you have to do this to give the greens an opportunity to dry down and breathe. It has very little effect on ball roll.

David is one of the most senior amigos - this is David's 8th season with us. One of the reasons the course looks so good is due to the hard work and dedication that these amigos give us. They can be trusted to do the most important jobs on the course.

More pond bank cleanup

Pond bank cleanup

Cut all brush around pond banks today. It looks much better. I would like to lower level of pond on #9 and get the mini ex over there to shave down the pond bank and re-sod all the way down to the water to clean up the look of the banks- then raise water level back up. Maybe a big winter project next year.

Drip irrigation

Finished installing drip irrigation for new bed on the left side of #8 tee. plants will go in within next few weeks.

Duff

Duff swimming back to shore after chasing the geese on #4. The should be able to fly within the next couple weeks.

Brush removal

Removing brush in front of #12 tee to clean up the creek.

Mowing Bunkers

We walk mow bunkers every Monday morning. This is one of the most labor intensive tasks that we do weekly.

More vandalism

This was on #8 green on Monday morning.

Rain

We got 0.5" of rain last night. The Bermuda grass needed it but greens are getting a little too moist with the hot humid weather that has moved in behind the rain.

Next landscaping project

Here is the spot for the next landscaping project at #8 tee. We will amend soil with 50-50 mix, install drip irrigation, then begin plant installation.

Vandalism

Kids are out of school and start destroying things on the golf course. This is the pin on #4 thrown in the pond. These flags are about $25 a piece and the sticks are $66 per.

Root length of greens

Below is a picture of root length on a couple of greens. #5 it the worst greens and could be compared to #6,8,11,13,14. #12 is a medium length and is in decent shape and could be compared to #2,3,4,9,10,15. #16 has great root density and length and could be compared to 17,18,1. These greens are in better shape because of more air flow, better construction, and less poa than some of the other greens (poa is very weak with short roots when compared to the bentgrass).

Fairways

The fairways are a little shaggy. I need to let them grow a little to cover up sand. We are going to start mowing this afternoon.

Mowing and rolling greens

Lowered the height of cut .005" today on greens and also rolling. This should help speed up the greens a little. I will watch the temps the next couple of days - if temps rise or we get a little rain the height will have to go back up. Rain with high temps this time of year can really set the greens back.

#5 green

Here's a picture of #5 green after being checked for moisture. This green is without question the weakest green that we have on the golf course. There's not a whole lot of spots to put the pin, all the foot traffic is concentrated to two areas, and it's kinda in a hole with little air movement.

Wednesday Morning

Going to be a hot one today.

Dragging fairways

Dragging sand into the fairways with a steel drag mat.

Spraying Greens

Tuesday morning spraying a preventive fungicide and foliar nutrients on greens. This application is for Brown Patch control - it's the time of year when this disease is very active - it's in a lot of the fescue lawns right now.

Topdressing Fairways

We are in the process of topdressing fairways this week. Topdressing promotes better drainage, tighter turf, decreased thatch, and better year-round fairways.

Bunker irrigation #9

Installing bunker slope irrigation to help keep the bunker noses from burning up.

Pond on #4

The pond is low on #4. We're leaving it low to see if we can get some clean rainwater - if we don't get any significant rain in the next day or so we're going to have to turn on the well.

Greens

The greens look much better since we have been getting a little rain and some temperatures around 90 and below.

#8 green

The greens are starting to struggle with the hot, humid weather we've had this week. They went into the hot weather wet because of the 1" of rain last Sunday - this wet hot weather cooks the root system.

PTO Blowing clippings

I lowered the length of the rough this week and the lower height made a mess with all of the grass clippings. To clean it up we have to drag over the clippings then blow them away.
